  7. Lovely feel-good movie starring the incredible Mickey Rooney. He had a terrible life with his family taking him to the cleaners, but man he was a real star and everything he appeared in just sparkled. He was 93 when he died in 2014 and his career in movies spanned an incredible 80 years. Magic like this doesn't come to us often.

  11. The old ones are the best - this is a fantastic movie and inspires smiles throughout. Great music, superb dancing and just a really feel good movie. They knew how to make them back in the day and actors knew how to act and project, none of your mumbling and attempting to lip read what is being said. Fantastic entry @Michael

    Mulan

Next to Alita, Mulan was my joint favourite movie of 2020. I just love the story, the action and the ending - but everything in between was just as good as the rest. Fantastic action sequences, great scenery and fantastic sets really draw you into the story. Based on Loyalty, Bravery and Truth the story unfolds with Mulan taking the place of her father in the Emperor's army commissioned to defend the empire against raiders - of course Mulan is a woman and women are not meant to fight or do anything that a man does, really? Mula kicks ass and then some - girl power in action and I loved every magical moment of the movie, including the soundtrack and the songs played over the credits at the end. Everything about this movie is just right - I haven't watched the animated versions, so I can't compare, but this movie said it all for me, in all of the right places. Brilliant!
  13. OMG I'm in love with a robot, Alita where have you been all of my life - well, considering that you're not real means forever. James Cameron has once again pulled a rabbit out of his imaginative hat and given us a fantastic movie that can easily be enjoyed over and over without it becoming stale. I'm really surprised that it only polls a miserable 71% from TMDB, I guess some people are really hard to please. I can't wait for Alita 2 and I hope that it brings a vengeful Alita to the fore to take her revenge for losing her love Hugo, and gets to Zalem and kicks Nova's ass right out of the cloud city. Bring it on James, I'm sitting in the wings rooting for Alita. Shame she's not real.

    Jiu Jitsu

I so wanted to enjoy this movie, but alas I would have had a more pleasant experience poking cocktail sticks in my eyes. It was torturous to watch with incredibly bad directing and the fight sequences were just pathetic, almost every move telegraphed and so posed it was unbelievably chronic. The number of times people were hit, bashed, kicked in the head and just jumped back into the foray as though someone had just flicked their ears, well it was just laughable, but not funny. Soldiers firing automatic weapons and hitting everything but their intended target just made it even more ludicrous. I regrettably had to rate the movie 1% in order to register a rating as 0% means not yet rated. This was a truly bad movie that should never have been released to the general public.
  15. I like Dylan O'Brien, he was brilliant in the Maze Runner franchise, and he pulls this one off without a bad moment in sight. Nice story that sees him traversing a dangerous landscape filled with monster sized bugs and creatures that want to eat him, all in order to see his long lost girlfriend who he had to leave when the troubles started. The effects are top notch, the journey is adventurous and there are some nice goofy moments that just add to the character of the story without making it cheesy. Some nice twists in the story and the movie makes for really good and enjoyable viewing. It was a pleasant surprise that Netflix pulled out of the bag.
