Waterloo ( 1970 )

26/10/70 History, Action, Drama and War 2hr 8min

After defeating France and imprisoning Napoleon on Elba, ending two decades of war, Europe is shocked to find Napoleon has escaped and has caused the French Army to defect from the King back to him. The best of the British generals, the Duke of Wellington, beat Napolean's best generals in Spain and Portugal, but now must beat Napoleon himself with an Anglo Allied army.

For me there is something compelling about historical movies based on facts as we know them.  Waterloo is a fine movie, garnished with all the splendour and spectacle you would expect depicting a bygone age.  The sets, costumes and battle scenes are unquestionably brilliant.  Rod Steiger as Napoleon is so far into character, he could almost be a descendant of Napoleon himself. A truly magnificent movie with a brilliant cast. No doubt one to watch over and over.
